Woody vegetation in buffers provides food and cover for wildlife, helps keep water temperatures low and increase the resistance of stream banks and shoreline erosion. Buffers are used with other BMP practices as part of a conservation management system. Buffers are also used for aesthetics and benefit wildlife.
